![]() The image they provide is hidden behind a login wall, and on top of that: applying the material doesn't do anything, I am an extremely detail oriented person and I have tried that tutorial MANY times. ![]() I had to do the water one for a class, and it wouldn't work. The documentation is NOT straight forward, Ill follow it to the letter and it just doesn't work. ![]() So I really don't know where that is coming from at all. My render times have almost doubled since using Arnold. What exactly is wrong with scanline and why are tutorials so scarce for it? Which renderer should I use for effects like water, smoke and fire? The official documentation only covers the scanline renderer. I have read the documentation on all of the ones available by default and it didn't really clear things up at all. I like using height and bump maps but the options/ work flow for that in Arnold is so obtuse it kills me, and they hardly ever work. However, my ultimate goal is to be making models/animations for video games, if that effects anything. What renderer should I be using? I generally render still images, which range from stylized to realistic. ![]() The worst part is over 95 percent of the tutorials online all use v-ray or mental ray, so I have wasted a lot of time watching 10 mins into something, only to not have that particular shader or material available that was in Mental Ray, but isn't in Arnold.ĭoes a chart exist that would show the equivalent Arnold materials to the Mental Ray ones? or I am missing something? I can't seem to get anything to work/ I don't have any options for things such as smoke and water (without downloading some 3D party thing, which usually costs money, which I don't have). I am really confused here, after switching to 3DS max 2020 a few months ago I have struggled a lot with the Arnold renderer as it feels really obtuse compared to the Mental Ray renderer of the good times.
